What I want to achieve
My mission is to help people embrace challenges, grab opportunities, and transform lives through the exploration of personal experiences and stories. I see a world of people who believe that it is possible to change, and to achieve dreams.
Background and history
I am Mwajemi, an African Australian woman, helping others find the courage to survive hardships and motivation to achieve their goals, through my story.
Born and raised in Congo (i.e. the Democratic Republic of the Congo), I migrated to Australia in 2005, after fleeing my country due to war, and living in a refugee camp for eight years. As I did not speak English, and was unfamiliar with the Australian / Western system and culture, I was not sure how I would fare in life. I had dreams, of course, but I was not sure I would achieve any of them. I had to believe that I am capable and it is possible to achieve anything I want, as long as I work hard.
I have survived a very uncomfortable journey, full of uncertainties and vulnerability, with interesting learnings and experiences. Believing that everyone can achieve dreams, I wanted to share this unique experience and help others transform their beliefs and lives. As the Swahili saying goes, “Polepole Tutafika tu!''; meaning, “Eventually, we will make it”.
During my studies at the University of South Australia, and engaging with many local community groups and individuals, I developed skills and confidence.
I have been invited by many individuals, organisations, schools, community groups throughout Australia, to provide motivational talks; I have been very grateful to receive positive feedback from people who, after attending my sessions, have accepted to challenge themselves and pursue their dreams.
I have been involved in many discussions and projects to provide cultural consultation and support. Talking to different people and different organisations, I realised how many individuals and families need someone to motivate them to explore and discover their gifts, and then work on their dreams. I realised my personal stories can contribute to the community by reminding people that they are the CEOs of their lives, and they can develop themselves and others only if they believe they can.
